The subtle art of Ayurveda is the art of looking, listening and touching with total perception. In this new week-long summer intensive, Vasant Lad, BAM&S, MASc, Ayurvedic Physician, will introduce us to the art of samyak darshana (true perception) in relation to the human body and guide us in honing our skills of observation - skills that are invaluable to everyone, from the practitioner to the poet.

We will begin the week with two and a half days of palmistry, looking at the major lines, mounds, and symbols of the hand and discussing their significance in relation to health, planets, and some of our current and future endeavors.

We will move from the hands to the face to examine the characteristics of facial lines, ridges and creases as well as the shape and details of the eyes, nose, lips, and tongue and their diagnostic, clinical importance.

An overview of the major channels or srotamsi of the body will include how to examine them for imbalances such as dehydration, low-lung energy, muscle weakness and more. These clinical skills are the foundation of an Ayurvedic consultation, and practitioners and non-practitioners alike will benefit from knowing these practical examinations and signs. Finally, Vasant Lad will explain the "magic box" of the body - the nine abdominal quadrants - and findings related to percussion, palpation and auscultation of this important area.

We will end this week with a Q&A and puja to celebrate the sharing of this profound, Ayurvedic knowledge!

'Clarity of mind comes from clarity of looking and listening.' - Vasant Lad (Jan. 2016)

'Every blue tongue is not Congestive Heart Failure. But every client of Congestive Heart Failure has a blue tongue. Every person with a groove at the nostril may not have low lung energy, but every person with low lung capacity will have a nasal groove. This is very important.' - Vasant Lad (Feb. 2016)
